On the main street through Pt Elliot, a row of heritage style cottages front the aged care facility run by Resthaven. This facility was opened in 2015 and includes a number of artworks by local artists. On the exterior wall, near both the east and west entrances, are mosaic artworks.
The design is inspired by the nearby ocean - one of the numerous good reasons to live in Pt Elliot. A single shape is used, that when tessellated a certain way, creates the rolling wave pattern that is the surface of the ocean. The shape's mirror image is used to create a seabird flying over the waves.
The mosaic is made from glazed, ceramic wall tiles. The tiles have been precisely cut with a high pressure water-jet and fit together without grout.
I began the design in February 2015 and the finished work was installed in December 2015.
