This project involved designing and making a concrete birdbath and then applying mosaic to it. I wanted to move away from the traditional ‘bowl on a pedestal’ style of birdbath and create a unique design. Sam Mulcahy welded the metal frame for the ferro-cement and I did the rest.
The mosaic design is based on the good fortune of finding a colourful feather whilst out on a walk. On one side of the birdbath are rainbow lorikeet feathers and on the other side, yellow-tailed black cockatoo feathers. The birdbath is about 1400mm high.
I designed the birdbath in June 2020 and installed it in April 2021.
