This work was inspired by Alberto Galli, an Italian immigrant who helped set up the fishing industry in Southend in the 1950’s. His dream was to create a tribute to the women of Southend, to celebrate and honour their strength, resilience, and enduring spirit.
The Southend Progress Association commissioned the work in 2023.
